In modern life, it is no longer necessary to use animals as food and in other products like clothing and medicines. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is claimed by some animal rights activists that since we should protect animals, we should not use them. I think they have exaggerated the rights of animals. Though we advocate a harmonious coexistence of human beings and animals, it does not mean we are equal to animals. Actually, it has been accepted that men are on top of the food chain and we are born carnivorous. What we say protecting animals does not mean we should not use animals, but we should treat them in a humane way and protect those rare and endangered animals.
Another important factor that we have to rely animals as the main sources of our provision is that we cannot find better alternative. The past couple of years have witnessed breakthroughs in science and technology. For example, scientists have developed man-made protein and glucose, or even clone technologies. However, it is far from being practical that all our meat is synthetic chemicals. Even worse, appetizing fish, mutton and steak are an indispensable part of our earthly life. Could you imagine a dinner with synthetic protein and vitamin?
